Prof. Imad Al-Khatib
Professor Imad Khatib is currently the president of the Palestine Polytechnic University (PPU). In addition, he is the secretary-general of the Palestine Academy of Palestine Science and Technology (PALAST). During serving at PALAST, Khatib has participated jointly with other institutions in the Euro-Mediterranean region, in the implementation of the European FP5 supported Med-Ibtikar program, where the status of national STI were assessed in addition to strengthening the capacities related to measuring innovation. Khatib served as a member of the technical expert committee that established the ESCWA Technology Center in Amman/Jordan to enhance innovation in countries of west Asia. Later and through cooperating with ESCWA, Khatib has established the Science, Technology, and Innovation Observatory (STIO) that was recognized by the national partner for UNESCO office for innovation statistics. Since its establishment, the STIO has conducted assessment studies on technological innovation activities in Palestinian industries based on the European and OECD community innovation survey approach. Four major industrial sectors have been assessed; food and beverages, stone and marble, pharmaceutical and software development. Reports and articles were published in highly reputable journals and results were used in a documents prepared by Imad Khatkb about the national STI policy framework (2016). Since the beginning of the academic years; 2015/2016, khatib started implementing the strategy for transferring the PPU into and entrepreneurial university. In addition to being a member of the Higher Council for Innovation and Excellence (HCIE), Khatib is also a member of the Palestine Incubator of Energy (PIE) and an honorary member of the World Innovation Foundation (WIF).
